Interview With…Becky S.

When Becky S. started blogging, she found family & friends inquiring about her new hobby. To answer their questions about how to get started, she started “PreBlogging.com”, a guide for people who want to know how to start blogging. In today’s interview, Becky answers a few of The Writing Geek’s questions about blogging.

The Writing Geek: What do you contribute to your success as a blogger?

Becky S.: Well to be honest I don’t know if I am really successful as a blogger. I still have  day job, but blogging is enough to give me that few extra bucks a month to party that little bit harder. I also use my earnings to buy new toys, like my new iPod Touch.

I have different types of blogs, some that I update daily , and some that just get touched up now and again. I think my success (if you can call it that) is that I started small with one blog, and when I refined my talents and style a little, I got a little bit better and more efficient as a blogger. Then I just rinsed and repeated.

TWG: Where do you find motivation to keep posting?

BS: I’ve always like writing, I find it a little bit relaxing. Sitting down and thinking about some interesting posts for your reader and then getting some feedback based on what you write is always great. I always get a little happy feeling inside me when I get a comment.

TWG: If you could go back in time a year, what would you change or keep the same about your blogging experience?

BS: I think maybe I would not have started my Preblogging blog.  While it has been very satisfying in the respect that I have helped some people to start blogging, it is also a very competitive market.

TWG: What is the most valuable piece of advice you could offer a blogger?

BS: Be a  free thinker. Don’t be afraid not to follow the crowd, your readers will respect that.

TWG: Aside from your own blog, what are your top three favorite blogs to read?

BS: I like to read likehacker.com , pointless-drivel.com , internetducttape.com

TWG: Do you have any rituals when you blog? If so, what are they?

BS: Normally I listen to music when I am  blogging, and I tend to write at least two blog posts at a time. Jumping between topics as I write

TWG: You have been elected president of the blogosphere. What is your first move?

BS: I think I would hand out better PR to some  of my favourite bloggers. ;) But seriously I would move to get all those splogs (spam blogs) who steal content from other bloggers remove from google’s index.

TWG: Thanks for talking to us!

Stumble it!

  1. Hi Dave,

Thanks for posting the Becky S interview. I couldn’t agree more with her about the spam bloggers. I wonder if we could do something useful with them? An artist who lives in my region has been taking her physical junk mail since Jan 07 and spiking it on a giant spike outside her house. At the end of the year she’s going to ‘bronze it’ and leave it as a statement against unwanted mailings. I wonder what the internet version of the ’spike’ could be?

  2. When I get a piece of junkmail that includes a prepaid return envelope, I like to tear the ads up, place them into the envelope and send them back. That way I get to register my dislike for them, and they get to pay for it! Surely if we brainstorm we could come up with some good ideas for SPAM…

  3. I’ve done the old post it back to them routine myself - after taking the free pen out of the envelope first! So how can we spam the spammers? Set up a throwaway email address and forward everything to there? Call it spike@ … And when the spike is big enough send it to the spammer. But the buggers are too clever at hiding their own addresses. Someone cleverer than me will have to come up with that one.
