Small Business Grants for Women

In my last post, I mentioned that I was going to make an attempt at selling an article or three in the Helium.com ‘Marketplace’. Yesterday, I posted my first article for that attempt, “A Guide to Small Business Grants for Women”. The article debuted at #1 of 2 articles, so we’ll see what happens with it.

In the meantime, I would strongly urge any women freelance writers out there to check it out. Freelance writing certainly falls under the category of small business, and there are a number of ways that women writers can take advantage of various grant, loan and other information programs offered by the federal government, state governments and even private organizations.

Guys, don’t feel left out. As I continue to grow this blog, I intend on exploring the many options for all segments of the population. The fact is that there is literally millions of dollars in grants waiting to be had by ’starving artists’, including us writers. If you want to find out more, you’ll just have to stay tuned!

Stumble it!

  1. I read the article and have a question for you, do these grants help with school and do you know how much you have to make before you are cut off from the grants?

  2. It all depends on the state you are in, but in general they will usually cover some aspect of your education. The most popular grant for most states is money to attend fellowships or to participate in internships and such. Again, you would have to see what your state offers specifically.

  3. The UK haven’t caught up with this yet. Grants are only given to people who create employment for others within their region. The Arts Council do offer grants however, for writing related projects. I have one for teaching an on-site course creative writing course - I use some of the material from that to post on my blog, so I suppose, indirectly, I do get ‘funding’ for my www.thecraftywriter.com But you’ve got me thinking, seeing I do provide a service to other writers, perhaps I could look into applying for something directly. I’ll keep you informed. Thanks for the great post.

  4. I wonder if there are any international organizations that provide these types of grants no matter where in the world you are. I do know that some of the grants available in the U.S. will assist with study in a foreign country as well.

  5. The European Union give continent wide grants, but that doesn’t help you guys. The British Council give grants to developing countries with a past colonial relationship with the UK. Again, thanks to the little war we don’t like to mention, that won’t include you! The World Bank offer development money, but again, you have to live in a developing country to qualify. Oh, the curse of being rich!
